New rating tailor-made for RV market and other applications
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky. At the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) Show today in Louisville, Kentucky, Detroit Diesel announced that its 2007 Mercedes-Benz 900 engine will offer a new high output 350 horsepower rating.
The MBE 900 continues to gain popularity in the North American market and is offered exclusively in Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation’s (FCCC) motorhome “Class A” chassis for the recreational vehicle market. Also, several premium recreational vehicle original equipment manufacturers and truck chassis RV conversions on Freightliner trucks rely on MBE 900 power. To date, there are more than 600,000 MBE 900 engines in operation worldwide and more than 100,000 MBE 900 engines have been delivered to the North American market.
“We are excited to offer this rating for the recreational vehicle market because we recognize that RV owners have highly selective tastes when it comes to engine selection and only want the best engine powering their motorhomes,” said John Gustafson, Manager of Medium-Duty Application Engineering. “And we are excited about bringing the production of the 900 to Detroit Diesel’s facility in Redford, Michigan.”
The MBE 900 continues to gain in popularity because of its high torque at low RPM, which means more usable, productive power with fewer gear shifts. For 2007, the 7.2L MBE 900 engine is a lightweight package, but designed to withstand tough use and harsh requirements. From quick response to excellent reliability, it meets the demands of stop-and-go driving.
“The MBE 900 engine, with its dual-stage turbocharger and SMART Fuel Injection System improves both throttle response and fuel efficiency so RV owners can feel confident that this engine provides both power and prestige in one package,” said Gustafson.
The MBE 900 engine is backed by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty that is one of the best in the North American market for medium-duty diesel engines. Detroit Diesel and Freightliner will continue to provide sales, service and parts support at its extensive service network of more than 800 service centers in North America.
