The Detroit team is unrivaled at making industry-leading engines, axles and transmissions. This past week, we banded together for an even greater cause: national heart health awareness.
On May 14, nearly 60 Detroit employees met at GM headquarters and West Riverfront Park for the American Heart Association’s 2016 Metro Detroit Heart Walk. Through donations and participant sponsors, the walk raised more than $862,047 across the state, helping to build awareness and healthier lives.
As in previous years, we’re proud to partner with the American Heart Association to help build lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. To further support the effort, our Heart Walk teams participated in various department events and campus fundraisers, raising over $22,700 this year. In a great demonstration of Detroit leadership, our team captains developed creative ways to raise funds and energize their teams. Five teams donated more than $1,500 each, and the Detroit Assembly team raised $5,442 through the large screen TV raffle alone!
Beyond our Heart Walk involvement, we have programs scheduled throughout 2016 to encourage cardiovascular health, including onsite walking, healthy menus, exercise classes at the Detroit Fitness Center and more.
Building healthy lives isn’t just an individual effort. It’s a task that requires consistent, ongoing effort and support. While we’re proud of what Team Detroit has accomplished, we know this is just the beginning of a happier and healthier 2016.
